Follows is a letter from the LA Wheelmen about how Rod was killed on the final leg of the Wheelmen’s 200 mile Grand Tour on Sunday:

Stephen Box has written the best piece to date about the tragedy that occurred this weekend:  while riding the LA Wheelmen Grand Tour, a father and his son were struck by a car.  The father was killed, and his son is in critical condition:

UPDATE (3/14/2008):  I visited the site yesterday and discovered CalTrans has done nothing!  I talked to construction workers there and they said that CalTrans does not plan to reorganize the zone to make it safe for cyclists.  Additionally, CalTrans set up is so bad that workers say rocks are coming dangerously close to the excavator, [...]
