Stephen Box 4 Council: Precinct Walking Run down
It’s been a long time since I’ve walked precincts. I’ve phone banked, I’ve gathered signatures, and I’ve organized events. I even shot 2500 photos at a Marcy Winograd event. But I haven’t gotten out there and rapped on doors in support of a candidate in a long time. Maybe all the way back to Kerry vs Bush in ’04.
Walking for Stephen Box was better than I remember canvassing being. People wanted to talk to us, people were dying to talk. Sure, there were a few die hard supporters of the current clowncil member . . . what was his name? LaBomb or Mr. Fail or something. But for the most part people are happy to see Whathisname get some competition. Voters are sick and tired of the same old glad handing do nothings and they’re happy to have someone asking them what they want.
And this last Wednesday, that’s what we did. A few volunteers and I headed out from Stephen Box 4 City Council HQ, and we hiked up a hill so steep you can’t bike up it. I mean, I can’t bike up it, and I’m pretty sure you can’t either. In a few short hours we beat the streets, talking to dog walkers and home owners.
I talked to a UK citizen getting out of his cab, returning from a long trip, and he promised to talk to his American wife about the election. We talked to a great guy who answered the door in a shirt that read “In Sacramento, no one can hear you scream.” He invited us in and gave us waters. We nearly got sprayed by a skunk and I think every single dog walker in that neighborhood got stopped at least twice . . . but they’re dogs didn’t mind, because we were even more liberal with pets and pats than we were with campaign literature.
And we’re doing it again. This coming Wednesday, January 19th, we’ll meet up at Stephen Box 4 CC HQ in Hollywood, pick a precinct, and go canvass the hell out of it. Join us:
When: Every Wednesday, from 530pm to 830pm
Where: Box4CC Campaign HQ, 5619 Hollywood Blvd
What: Walk precincts canvassing in support of the bikeyist candidate in Southern California, Stephen Box!
