LABP: The 2nd Bike Working Group, and Wednesday's Bike Plan meeting (7/100)

By Alex Thompson

If you can do one thing for cycling this week, come to the 2nd meeting of the Bike Working Group, put on by Bikeside and the Bike Writers Collective, this Saturday afternoon.  We’ll meet Saturday, from 1pm till 4pm in downtown Los Angeles at The Exchange, 114 W. 5th St (Facebook event.)

If you can do two things for cycling this week, go to the Bike Working Group, but before that, go to the LA Bike Plan community input in West LA on Wednesday.  It’s from 5pm till 7pm on Wednesday, at the Felicia Mahood Multipurpose Center at 11338 Santa Monica Blvd (Facebook event.)

If you do three things for cycling this week, do those two, and email me at, and I’ll give you a third thing.  And tweet this post!

The Bike Working Group will take a deeper look at the plan, vote on some recommendations from the previous meeting, and begin reworking the plan into a new plan, written by cyclists, for cyclists.  We’re calling it LA’s Best Bike Plan.

At the Bike Plan meeting on Wednesday consultants for Alta Planning, which drafted the proposed plan, and officials from DOT will be accepting public input.  At the meeting in South LA on Saturday, there was an active back and forth between consultants, officials, and activists.  It was interesting to observe the positions on the plan crystallizing.
