Important Planning Meeting Today (Tuesday), at Santa Monica City Council

By Alex Thompson

I will be attending an important meeting of the Santa Monica City Council today, Tuesday, at 6:45 pm.  If you are concerned about bicycle planning in Santa Monica please show up and speak in support of cycling.  If you’re unable to make it this Tuesday, there is another similar meeting next Tuesday.

Standing room only in SM City Council Chambers, when cyclists stormed City Hall to express anger at the SMPD outlash on SMCM

At today’s City Council meeting the council will discuss the draft Land Use and Circulation Element, or LUCE.  LUCE is a long range plan which controls transportation and development planning for the next twenty years.  Because it has long range implications for transportation, it is important that we get the strongest possible language for cycling included within the plan.  At today’s meeting feel free to ask me about it.

Even better than getting good language in the plan, we can pressure the council to begin funding the bicycle recommendations within the plan – before the plan is approved.  On November 13th over 50 cyclists attended a SM City Council meeting to express their displeasure over police harassment of SMCM.  Lets flex that muscle again, and ask for the best possible recommendations for cycling in the LUCE.

When:  6:45pm – 10 or 11ish

Where: Santa Monica City Hall, Council Chambers, 1685 Main St, Santa Monica

Afterward, lets go to La Cabaña!
