dude, that’s straight inspirational. all too often i find myself too upset at the whole system to act with composure and maturity, and blow up much like you seem to have done. I remember leaving the park, looking back on you guys left over, feeling super lucky that i didn’t run into a cop, since i know i’d run my drunk ass mouth off and get a ticket just for being different minded. i’ve just given up on trying to talk sense to them, since for the most part, even if they’re up for discussion, they’ve already made up their minds and are not to be swayed. strikingly similar argumental techniques to fanatical religious types, by the way. so thank you for still having faith in civilized discussion and logical persuasion. may it never be replaced with bitter cynicism, that shit blows.

Will – I think you and I have similar temperament when it comes to law enforcement and sarcastic remarks. I typically leave such an interaction with a well bitten tongue and a lot of useless witty things I could have said.

Anonymous – that is very interesting. One thing I can’t understand about police work is how partners work together when one has an aggressive style and the other is more community policing oriented. I imagine that there is a lot of conflict behind the scenes, but I really have no idea.

Mihai – Alec has also suggested this as the latest chant.

Culver City PD recruits are trained by the LASD Academy.
Most likely, this guy was unprepared in some way, and was layed into the ground there.
Perhaps the traumatic experience turned him into one of his dickhead trainers and now he uses that ass-chewing as guide to living.
If he treats you that way, I would imagine he does the same to other citizens, authorities and probably, other officers as well.

One thing’s for sure, if I ever find myself on the same force as this guy, I’m telling the dog to stay in the car!!!

The only ticket I ever got in a lifetime of cycling was last February in Culver City adjacent to the Ballona Creek Bikeway.

One of the first things he said to me was “I bet you run T intersections all the time, don’t you?”

“Only on days with a “T” in it,” is what I wanted to say, but I bit my lip because I knew better than to get smart with cop. Besides that it was a Friday. So instead I told him that clearly demonstrating such a judgmental bias against me made the question rhetorical and we then he went about writing me up for running a stop sign. I was respectful and compliant with his requests and as reward he didn’t write me up for other alleged violations that could have bumped the $170 ticket cost up near $370.

Culver City po-po man. Gah!

I’m gonna go watch that July CRANK Mob video again now. It makes me feel young at heart.

Bikers thread through traffic with a modicum of effort, counting on momentum and the minimization of friction to get them where they are going quickly and quietly. That is the paradigmatic opposite of muscle car man who lays rubber, noise and fumes where ever he goes. Muscle car cop adds to this a deep appetite for raw coercion. No wonder he can’t tolerate you. I wouldn’t beat yourself up too much, Alex. Sounds like you went out of your way to be reasonable until you ran into a jerk with a badge who pushed you just a little too far.

Using my imaginary degree in psychology, I’ve found that people often direct the same taunts at others that they inflict on themselves, so they can feel a little better about themselves.

Never give up that childish perspective, and don’t let jerks like that get you down.
