LABP: 12 principles for LA's Best Bike Plan (9/100)

If you can’t make the Bike Working Group today, here are twelve principles we’ll be presenting.  These principles were distilled out of the 8 solid pages of ideas that came out of the first Bike Working Group.  Bikeside and the Bike Writers Collective will be presenting these 12 principles as the proposed backbone of LA’s [...]

The 720 Bike Map

The 720 Bike Map

(by Mihai Peteu)
The MTA rapid on Wilshire is one of the most heavily used bus routes in the city of Los Angeles. After staring at the 720 Timetable + Route(PDF) dozens of times, it became pretty clear that there’s no reason why the bikeways in the city can’t be modeled after where I, a [...]

LABP: LADOT "woefully inadequate" (8/100)

LABP: LADOT "woefully inadequate" (8/100)

Thanks to Ken Alpern, I was able to attend the Council District 11 (Bill Rosendahl) Transportation Advisory Committee.  We discussed the draft LA Bike Plan, and we passed two motions, unanimously (with 1 abstention each.)
The 1st Motion:
The first, was authored by the committee collectively, with Jay Handel (West LA NC) at the lead:

Unfortunately, in Bronze-Award Bike Friendly [...]

Bike thief arrested, was carrying a .357

Bike thief arrested, was carrying a .357

A few weeks back I wrote about my disdain for vigilante action proposals (1, 2) for dealing with bike thieves.  “MS”, who had just had his bike stolen, disagreed in the comments.  Since then, he found his bike on Craigslist, and worked with LAPD to set up a sting operation:
UPDATE: I found my stolen bike [...]

LABP: MVCC requests a deadline extension, SLNC on it's heels (6/100)

The demand for an extension of the deadline for public input (November 6th) on the LA Bike Plan process continues to gather momentum.  The Mar Vista Community Council (MVCC) passed a motion requesting an extension of the deadline, and Silver Lake Neighborhood Council is hot on their heels.  However, so far Transportation Chairman Bill Rosendahl [...]

LABMP: LA Bike Plan vs. LA Bike Master Plan (5/100)

Dammit!  As if the LA Bike Master Plan process wasn’t annoying enough, they switched semantics on me.  Stephen Box informed me on the telephone that the proper terminology is now LA Bike Plan.  Are you %$%^ing kidding me?  So, now I’ll start using LA Bike Plan as the terminology, and LABP for short.
Aarrgh!  Confusing!
